Televisits: How COVID-19 is Changing the Face of Healthcare

doctor on televisit with patient

If you’re sick with anything right now, you might have been told to stay home so you don’t risk being exposed to COVID-19 in the hospital or clinic. Even if you aren’t currently sick, the best thing to do is stay home to help flatten the curve of COVID-19 infections. This social distancing has caused problems for those who need regular

access to doctors. What if you’re immunocompromised, but you need to go in for a check-up? What if you have symptoms, but you can’t go to a clinic?

Resourceful doctors have found the answer to these problems: televisits. These are visits with a doctor that you can have over the phone or using video conference software. If you’re interested in scheduling a televisit, call or book an appointment with MD365®. Our doctors will give you all the medical care you need at a price you can afford, and we offer televisits for those who need care from the safety of their home.

How Do They Work?

If you need to see a doctor, but you can’t leave your home, you now have the option of looking for doctors who offer televisits, either through a televisit service or through your doctor’s website. These visits are usually covered by insurance, just like a face-to-face visit. All you have to do is open your phone or computer and answer your doctor’s call.

You can talk to the doctor as you normally would. If your doctor decides you need medication, they’ll send the prescription straight to your pharmacy. These visits are short, convenient, and straight-to-the-point, but your doctor will happily answer any questions you have during the televisit.

Why Televisits Matter

These televisits are becoming much more widely available in the wake of COVID-19, and their impact on patients could be much bigger than we think. These online visits include therapy, which is revolutionary for agoraphobic patients who can’t always leave their homes, especially in the early phases of recovery. Disabled patients could also benefit from televisits. Not all doctor’s offices are easily accessible, and some patients with chronic illnesses or disabilities aren’t capable of making regular doctor’s visits. By meeting their doctor over the phone, these patients can easily get help when they need it, without risking further sickness.

Televisits were offered before COVID-19, but their increasing demand means more insurance companies are willing to cover them, and more doctors will begin to offer them. This will make healthcare more accessible to everyone, and they’re a great service for patients with limited mobility.
