Pediatric Physicals

Types of Pediatric Physicals

There are multiple types of pediatric physicals. Each one is designed to benefit your child and their health exponentially during their developing years.

  • School Physicals — Many school districts require a thorough pediatric physical before a child may enter the classroom. The reason is, for many, that vaccinations help to keep children from falling ill while in the learning environment. Furthermore, this period of your child’s life is heavily focused on development — psychological and physical changes.
  • Sports Physicals — To participate in the majority of school extracurricular activities — especially sports — children must often undergo a thorough physical. During such an exam, your child’s vitals, joints, flexibility and even vision will be tested.

How Often Does Your Child Need a Physical?

  • Infants (less than 1 year old) — At 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 8 months and 1 year.
  • Toddlers (1-3 years old) — At 18 months, 2 years and 3 years.
  • Preschool Children (4-5 years old) — All children undergo their 4/5-year-old vaccines before kindergarten begins.
  • School Children (6-11 years old) — After school begins, your child will undergo a physical every two years.
  • Teenagers (12-17 years old) — For teens, physicals are necessary every two years. If participating in school sports, then every year.
